I’m a UX design leader, manager, strategist, and innovator focusing on user centered design across multiple platforms: from conventional web and apps, to connected devices (IoT) and proprietary systems.
I believe good leadership is made of three parts. First, leaders should bring unique problem solving tools to a leadership team. For me, that unique spin comes from my specific mix of design experience, engineering knowledge, and business acumen. Second, leaders should be able to clearly articulate to teams both what must be done and why. The why is critical to building a team that can produce new solutions at the highest level of executional excellence. Third, a design leader should help the company understand why user centered design is important for the companies success, and guide the company on best practices. Merging these three parts together seamlessly can create a dynamic company culture of success.
As a play/coach style manager, I fundamentally I believe in a collaborative form of management. I have years of experience building team cultures that focus on growth and development, which ultimately leads to excellence in execution and company success. This process isn’t fast, and can take some time, but will inevitably result in sustainable gains for employees, customers, and the company.
The bases of my approach starts with user centered design. For me this means, finding multiple ways to understand users needs, wants, struggles, and successes. Research and experience shows that addressing these things will naturally lead to powerful products that change lives and build companies. I also believe in the exploratory process of design. That we don’t always know what the outcome should look like at start of project. Lastly visual design has it’s own innate value in the equation of good user experience. Balancing all of these things together with business needs and technologic innovation is what makes a company like Apple and Samsung successful.
